I just got a call from this number too. It didn't come through Google Voice it came to my SKYPE phone number. Only a few people have it so it has to be a telemarketer. Darn I only had my Skype number for a week.

I understand this is a google call but I didn't get phne calls at 1am - 3am several times in the morning from ANYONE ELSE.    I wouldn't know anyone who ould een try this service using my number at that hour.    Everyone I know would know better.    This needs to stop.    I can't unplug myphone at night in the event of an emergency but the contant ringing phone is making us all lose valuable sleep.    There's got to be a better way...

It is from G mail.    Whenever I can't find my cell phone (thank you Grand Children), I use my laptop to call it and find it.

Please take a deep breath. This number, 760-705-8888, is simply Google Chat. It's system always shows the area code from California.

Create a g-mail account or log into your g-mail account, if you already have one. Check it out, down there on the left, and notice the option to make internet calls. Click on it, accept the terms, and up pops a phone-dial box. You can immediately begin dialing, it will ring into the dialed number. However, if you don't have a microphone headset on, you won't be able to talk to the other person or hear them.

I'll bet lots of people try this dial box, randomly dialing a number or trying to call someone they know, and perhaps not initially realizing they need a headset to hear and talk on their call. And the number being called doesn't know who is calling them and may become overly concerned over receiving a call from a number they don't know.    Maybe the caller has their own volume too low to not be able to hear 'you'. There are many reasons for the calling confusions, and lastly, yes, anyone could place a prank call on any of the calling platforms. But that isn't Google's fault anymore than it would be AT&T's fault if the caller had service via AT&T.

This phone number was used to scam my elderly parents yesterday!    They got hit hard!!    The caller posed as their 'grandson' (how they got his name, I have no idea!) and claimed he was in a Mexican prison, saying he was being beaten, etc. and needed the money to get out of jail.    Others got in on the call and claimed to be from the American Embassy in Mexico, they had a 'secretary', a 'lawyer', and the 'policeman'.    This is just awful.    Makes me sick that people are so devious.    May they ALL rot in Hell.
